Monday & Tuesday (Week 7) - Charters Towers

Ahlan! This blog post will cover Monday and Tuesday of this week. Enjoy!

Monday

So today, after having a really productive morning of school/work, we headed to the Main Street of Charters Towers - Gill Street. Charters Towers is an old mining town, and the majority of its buildings are all Heritage protected. The buildings are all really cool (see the photos) and we enjoyed looking around at the City Hall, as well as a place called the Miner's Cottage where we got to pan for actual gold! I found gold. Apparently about $20 dollars' worth (ish). So that was a heap of fun, and there was a museum as well there, however I was a bit too busy panning for gold to pay much attention to that component. After the Miner's Cottage, we walked a bit more around the Main Street, before heading back to camp for a relaxing rest of the afternoon and evening. I am currently writing this with stiff fingers because of the cold... 🥶 More updates soon!

Tuesday

Ok, so it’s Tuesday. This morning, we did school/work (again) and I was able to finish quite early which was nice. So I had a pretty relaxing morning, and this afternoon, after doing our Cert 3 lesson, we headed up to Tower Hill. It is a really historical place, and has over 30 mines and 40 bunkers on the hill. We were able to marvel at God’s amazing artwork with the sunset, and take some really cool photos which are included. Something that I have realised recently is that God didn’t have to make everything look good, or even make things pleasing to the eye at all. But he did, just for us. So I thought that was pretty cool 😁. We had dinner up Tower Hill, and we also were able to have this tour guide tell us quite a bit about the history of the hill which was definitely intriguing. Turns out that the man who discovered the gold at the bottom of Tower’s Hill was actually a First Nations horse-boy. (#funfact) There was also photos, and a film that you watched at the end which was really interesting. After that, we headed back down the hill and back to the campsite, where I am now writing this post. We are definitely enjoying the 3-6min drives that we have had to do in order to go to the main city, or to Tower’s Hill, compared to the 30min drives in Bundaberg or other places. That’s all for now! Adios!
