Howdy folks! This blog post will cover the Saturday and Sunday of Week 9-10. In case you're wondering, we were spontaneous and when we stopped at- Wait! I can't spoil it! You will find out!
Saturday
After we packed up our campsite on Saturday morning, we headed began our drive to Tambo. However, while driving through Blackall Main Street to have lunch, we saw a sign saying Rodeo this weekend. Us having such a reputation for spontenaity (NOT!) we decided to ask, and turns out there was actually a rodeo, and the sign wasn't outdated as we once thought. So we asked around, and ended up staying in Blackall (went for lunch, stayed for a night) at a Council Campsite which had no water or toilets... Long story short, we had to drive to the toilets which were a couple streets away. 😅 Anyways... we went to the rodeo that night, and we had SOOOO much fun. There was the pre-show which had younger kids bull-riding and barrel-racing, and then the actual show had adults doing the same thing. (With slightly bigger bulls...) I still don't understand why people would want to do bull-riding, although I'm sure that the $8,000 price was a good motivator. Mum loved seeing the moo-moos afterwards, and we got a selfie of us in front of a bull. (Note: an unhappy one... 😬) Even though it was absolutely freezing 🥶, we made it through the night.
Sunday
On Sunday, we packed up the camer trailer, and had entertainment while doing it, as a pipe had burst on Friday night (thankfully the night before we arrived) and flooded the opposite side of the campsite to we were on. We got to watch people digging their caravan wheels out of the mud. 😁Afterwards, we went to the Blackall Woolscour, which is where they used to clean the dirty wool. Trust me, the wool was dirty!! It was really cool seeing all the of the machinery that was powered by the two steam boilers, and they even had a dryer and a mechanism that would blow the clean wool up into the loft for sorting. It was all really complicated and really practical as well. I can see though, that while the machinery itself was quite quiet, to have about 3,000 sheep baaing and shearers calling out (there was a shearing shed on site to make things easier) it would get VERY loud. After that, we had an uneventful drive to Tambo and set up with no problems. We went to watch... get this!! CHICKEN RACING!! 🐔🍗 It was so much fun, and there is a link (HERE: GET LINK) to the chicken races (skip to the last couple minutes to see the chicken races, the first part is the auction- very entertaining as well though) We had a nice dinner afterwards, and headed back to the campsite for a relaxing evening.
