Hey all! I am feeling so sleepy writing this, but that fact that I know you will be reading this makes me keep touching my fingers on the keyboard. This post will cover both Thursday and Friday's happenings. Enjoy! (Photos down the bottom as usual)
Thursday
Ok, Thursday...
On Thursday, we did school in the morning, and worked extra hard to make up for the day we were taking off on Friday. After our Cert 3 Lessons in the afternoon, we headed over to Uncle Jon and Auntie Kolaiah's to catch up with them over dinner. Mum was able to cook yummy homemade pizzas (bought pizza bases but still amazing) and we were able to hang out together, as well as have cuddles with Izzy (Israel) and also Tingles (the cat). We got home at a decent hour, and began getting ready for the following early morning. After we had finished (or I had finished 😂) I was able to read a bit before going to bed. And that was Thursday.
Friday
Ok... so today (which is the main reason I feel exhausted) we got up early (6.15 for me, 5.30 for Mum) and left the campsite by 7.30AM (emphasis on AM. Not my idea 🤣) and headed up to Cape Tribulation, which by the way, is over 2 and a half hours away from where we are. We did make a stop at a lookout where we got some amazing photos (good thing God's a great artist) and then Dad had a break from driving when we got on the barge to cross the Daintree river. Which was nothing compared to the barge from Townsville to Magnetic Island. Thankfully this barge only took few minutes. Once we got over there, we meandered up to Cape Tribulation, admiring God's handiwork in the trees, and the annoyance of speed bumps that have rocks built into them to make people really slow down. While we were driving we began listening to these sermons by Paul Washer (totally recommend them) about Biblical Courting. So far we haven't quite gotten to the courting component, but we have learnt a really good foundation and also the husband's responsibility in the home. (We have listened to 2 out of 6 episodes) Once we got to Cape Tribulation, we did a short walk up to a lookout, however there were many tours going on, so there were a lot of people. We didn't stay that long, and then headed back towards the Daintree River, stopping at another beach to have a lunch. We ended up enjoying it a bit too much since we stayed there too long, and Dad had to put his race-car driving skills to the test driving around all of those bends. Ok, maybe not quite, but lets just say it was a good thing that we had slow cars in front of us...
You might be wondering, "why were they rushing so much?" or you might just be wondering "what's for dinner?" or "what's the purpose of life?" but I'm only going to answer the first question. 😁 We had booked for a 2.30pm Daintree River Cruise that gave us a 98% chance of seeing a crocodile. The admin lady had advised us to arrive at 2.00pm, or 2.15pm at the very latest. Thanks to Dad, we were able to arrive at 2.05pm which meant Dad's driving had cut off 5 minutes of our predicted time.
Fun fact! There were two really cute dogs at the place, and they came up to us, and I was patting one of them for ages while we waited for the boat. She was sooo cute!
On the cruise, we ended up seeing FOUR CROCODILES (not to mention the many 'logodiles'). Two of them were the full size ones that you normally see in the zoo, but the other two were just little baby ones. Apparently only 1% of baby crocodiles live to adulthood. I guess that keeps the population down...
We were able to see quite a few cool birds, and we all agreed that even the cruise itself was worth it (plus the free slushies at the end) because of the serenity and beauty of it. We got some really cool photos, however I apologise in advance for the photo quality (or lack thereof) because we had to zoom in to see the crocodiles as of course, we didn't want to get too close. I must say though, it was a slight disappointment that we didn't see any crocs in the water swimming (apart from one of the little ones that was just off the bank) even though the people in the cruise just before us got to see two crocs fighting! But either way, we definitely really enjoyed it.
After finishing the cruise (and saying goodbye to the dogs) we headed to the Daintree village, with the aims of exploring, however most of the places there were all closed, so we just had another look at the river and then headed back home.
And now I am sitting writing this after a yummy dinner thanks to Dad (and trying to stay awake). Thanks so much for reading! Over and out- Tahllia 😻
