Greetings! I am currently on my bed (again) writing more blog posts, trying to catch up before I watch Bluey. ๐
This post will be documenting Monday and Tuesday of last week. *Note: I wrote this last week (Suddenly realizing how far behind I am haha)
Monday
And here we are. Now to say what we did today… Now what did we do today? ๐ค

Hi again! I thought about saying “Happy Anzac Day” but instead I am going to say, “Lest we forget” Today, since it has been so busy, I must confess that I haven’t really thought much about the reason that we were able to have the day off school/work. However, as I am currently lying on my bed, feeling like I could lie down and go to sleep, I can’t help but be reminded that we could be living in a very different country if it weren’t for our soldiers. Just a thought.
We have been able to
have a wonderful day today, even though it didn’t go quite to plan…
Last night when talking about our plans for today, it was
supposed to go like this: Leave at 9am, arrive in Rockhampton at around 10ish
and do a cave tour. Then after that we go to the Botanical Gardens for a couple
hours, walk around, go into the free zoo there, and then go to the Heritage
Village after that for another couple hours. Instead, our day went like this…
We slept in... a very little bit, got ready for the day, and
then ended up leaving at around 9.30ish. Turns out that after Dad researched a
bit more this morning (or maybe last night… I dunno) the cave tour was a bit
expensive for only 45minutes in the caves. So instead, we were going to just go
to the Botanical Gardens to start off with (the Historical Village was closed)
and then go on from there to wherever. Venice. (Long story short that is
our code-word for just living in the moment and not rushing. It was a lesson
that Mum and Dad learnt… while in Venice. You might read that word often in
this blog.) But once arriving, we discovered that the free zoo (which was the
most attractive thing for me there) did not open until 1.30pm. We arrived at
about 10.30ish. So, to kill the next few hours (and because for some reason Mum
and Dad find walking around gardens interesting ๐) we… walked around. Our
first stop was this “Wetlands Lookout” which was actually quite nice, but my
favourite part was before the lookout where there were these turtles gathering
around where a man was feeding them. We stayed there watching for ages, and the
turtles were coming up really close out of the water. After getting many photos,
we moved on, but not without counting the 20-something turtles within about a
metre radius. The wetlands/lake was nice, however was mostly those plant
thingies that makes it all look green, and then far out you could see the nice
blue clear water.
After that we kept walking to these Japanese gardens that
Mum wanted to see. Not gonna lie, the gardens were quite nice. (I am scratching
my neck right now, because I think I got somewhat sunburnt today ☹
#randomthought haha) Rianna, my sister called me, and I was able to have a nice
chat with her, and then we went to get lunch. Correction. Dad went
to get lunch, while the rest of us looked around a gift shop and bought some
postcards. There were some rainbow lorikeets around that would sit on the
tables, but no matter how hard we tried, none of them would come up to our
table. We must smell…
But, after lunch, and after some persevering, some rainbow
lorikeets came up to me and ate grapes out of my hand! It was really nice, and
they were actually really gentle. I thought that their beaks would hurt, but it
was kinda the feeling of rubbing your smooth fingernails down your skin.
Everyone was able to get some nice photos which I was happy about.
After lunch (and after the bird feeding) we went to the zoo.
Without going into major details about every single animal, I have just
included a picture of the map.
I think all of us will say that our favourite animals were
the otters (Christopher’s favourite), the meerkats (Dad’s and my personal favourite)
and chimpanzees (Mum’s personal favourite). The otters were quite cute, and the
meerkats were adorable. They kept sitting up and looking, or standing, or just
lounging back in a pot plant. I just sat and watched them for ages and would
have kept doing if not for the fact that we wanted to get back home. The
chimpanzees were also really cute, and there was a year old one that would
climb around, and “boop” the other’s monkey’s noses, and also take un-invited
piggybacks. It was pretty funny, as (no offense) it kinda reminded me
personality-wise of my year-old nephews ๐
We are now all pretty tired, and my legs are especially
tired, particularly with the combination of yesterdays hike… It is the perfect
weather for snuggling up under a blanket (and with a cat if I had that option)
and watching Bluey (comment below if you like Bluey) While our plans for today
were going to be really busy and going from one place to another, it was really
nice just to leisurely walk around the Botanical Gardens and laugh together
looking at the animals. Turns out that being flexible is really rewarding…
Thanks for reading!
*Can you please comment below of how you like the layout of the blog posts, and any feedback that you may have? (More photos, less words etc.)
Many blessings,
